The application is submitted by a non-profit association of forest owners with about 2000 members. In order to ultimately implement specific measures in Natura2000 areas, the aim was contact about 100 forest owners within one area (divided into 2 communities). About 1/3 of them were contacted and were able to attend on-site meetings to discuss specific measures for forest nature conservation (areas of old forest, biotope trees, shaping of forest edges). Measures were implemented for 15% of all forest owners who were originally contacted. In total, this accounted for about 50 biotope trees and several hectares of old forest. The project has demonstrated that forest owners are happy to implement these measures if a) they are paid appropriate compensation and b) administrative hurdles are removed. Further projects of this kind will be implemented in other areas.
